🕯 A conversation about why peace without punishment for crimes is impossible, led by people who have lived through Russian occupation themselves. As part of The Hague Justice Week, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee and the East-Ukrainian Centre for Civic Initiatives combine the living testimonies of survivors with the perspectives of lawyers and researchers.
🤝 The discussion focuses on accountability for crimes in Ukraine, the needs of survivors, and real paths to justice. Who will speak:
- Maryna Suprun, Valentyna Petushko and the director of the ECCI, Volodymyr Shcherbachenko, will share their own experience of living under occupation
- Iva Vukušić, researcher at Utrecht University, will offer an expert perspective
- a representative of the Register of Damage for Ukraine will talk about practical options for survivors
- moderated by Céline Guieno, programme officer at the NHC
📚 At the end, the ECCI will present Uninvited. It is a collection of 25 personal stories of Ukrainians who lived under occupation from 2014 to 2022.
The evening begins with tea and coffee. After an hour of discussion there will be time for questions, and the event will end with informal networking over drinks and snacks. Simultaneous interpretation into English and Ukrainian will be provided.
📝 Registration is required via the organisers' form.
