Carmina Burana — National Opera and Ballet of Ukraine, Odesa

🎶 Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, usually heard in a concert hall, comes alive here on stage. The National Opera and Ballet of Ukraine from Odesa brings to Groningen a production in which the orchestra, choir, vocal soloists and ballet perform together. That is over a hundred performers on one stage.

Even if you have never listened to the whole cantata, you will almost certainly recognise its powerful rhythms and grand choir. It is based on medieval poems about fickle fortune, love, desire and the uncertainty of human life. The famous O Fortuna frames contrasting scenes: from boisterous feasts to deeply intimate episodes, and a reminder that happiness and power vanish as quickly as they come.

🎭 Who is behind the production:

• conductor — Ihor Chernetskyi
• choreography — Gerard Mosterd
• video design — Sibe Kokke

Dance and video projections add a visual dimension to the live performance. So the evening will appeal both to those who love choral and orchestral music and to those who go to the theatre for the ballet.

🎟 Tickets from €51.20, they must be purchased in advance.
