🎶 The Odesa Opera is bringing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana to Maastricht, and this is not just a concert but a full stage production. Orchestra, choir, vocal soloists and ballet, together more than one hundred performers. Even if you have never listened to the whole cantata, you will most likely recognize these rhythms and the powerful choir from the very first bars.
The piece is set to medieval poems about fickle fortune, love, desire and the uncertainty of life. The famous O Fortuna opens and closes the performance, and in between come contrasting scenes: from boisterous revelry to quiet, personal episodes and a reminder that happiness and power vanish as quickly as they arrive.
🎭 Who is behind the production:
- conductor Ihor Chernetskyi
- choreography by Gerard Mosterd
- video design by Sibe Kokke
Dance and projections add a visual dimension to the live performance. So the evening will appeal both to those who love choral and orchestral music and to those who go to the theatre for the ballet.
🎟 Tickets cost from 50 to 60 euros, buy them in advance. The performance lasts one and a half hours, and an introductory lecture will take place one hour before the start.
🕯 The performance falls on the Dutch Remembrance Day: at the beginning of the evening the theatre observes two minutes of silence. So it is worth arriving early and following the venue's arrival instructions.
