Ukrainian International Ballet — INdependent24

🎭 An evening of contemporary choreography in which Ukrainian dancers tell stories of war, forced relocation and the search for oneself through the language of the body. Ukrainian International Ballet grew out of the Ukrainian dance community in the Netherlands and combines classical ballet training with contemporary dance.

💪 The first piece, Emotions by choreographer Dmytro Borodai, is built on the story of veteran Andrii Siromakha, who lost an arm and a leg in the war. Andrii takes the stage himself, and the production becomes a deeply personal exploration of physical limits, resilience, and what movement can be when the body does not match the usual idea of a dancer.

🎶 In the second, de/het/één by Rishel Wiles, the experience of ten Ukrainian dancers building a new life in the Netherlands comes alive. Everyday observations and humor sit alongside stories of losing a home and searching for one's place in an unfamiliar society. The piece features recorded interviews and music by Ukrainian composer Yurii Shepeta.

Good to know in advance: this is contemporary choreography, not a traditional narrative ballet: the stories are told through movement and the performers' own testimonies.

🎟 Tickets cost €29.50. This is a preview performance of the INdependent24 program. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
