Ukrainian International Ballet — INdependent24

🎭 An evening of contemporary dance in which Ukrainian artists speak about war, forced displacement and the search for oneself through the language of the body. Ukrainian International Ballet, an ensemble that grew out of the Ukrainian dance community in the Netherlands, presents INdependent24. The program consists of two productions in which classical ballet training is combined with contemporary choreography.

Emotions by choreographer Dmytro Borodai is based on the story of veteran Andrii Siromakha, who lost an arm and a leg in the war. Andrii takes the stage himself, and the performance becomes a personal exploration of the limits of the body, resilience and movement that does not fit conventional ideas of what a dancer is.

🎶 In de/het/één, Rishel Viles draws on the experience of ten Ukrainian dancers building a new life in the Netherlands. Everyday observations and humor sit alongside stories of a lost home and the search for one's place in an unfamiliar society. The soundscape is complemented by recorded interviews and music by composer Yurii Shepeta.

Good to know in advance: this is contemporary choreography, not a traditional narrative ballet.

🎟 Tickets cost from €32.50 to €35, drink included. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
