📚 What can the Netherlands learn from Ukraine about how a society can withstand a long crisis? This symposium in Utrecht looks for the answer not only in defence and physical preparedness, but also in the spiritual and social dimension of resilience: faith, churches and pastoral care during wartime.
The discussion will focus on how communities find meaning, preserve connections between people and support those affected by the war. There will also be a separate talk on how religious communities help people get through an existential crisis. Scholars from the Ukrainian Catholic University will travel to the Netherlands for this conversation.
🤝 Programme:
- keynote lecture by Professor José Casanova, sociologist of religion and author of the book Public Religions in the Modern World
- response by Dr. Simon Polinder
- panel discussion with Ukrainian scholars
- informal networking with drinks at the end
The event is jointly organised by Socires, the Catholic studies network of Tilburg University, and Draiflessen Academy. The language of the talks is not specified in the announcement.
🎟 Participation is free of charge, but registration is required via the university's form. The whole programme, including a break, lasts about three hours.
